Needing Nitty Gritty

THANKS FOR THE article "A Diversity of Gifts," by David Batstone (February-March 1993). It seems to me that one of the best services Sojourners can provide people in their attempt to build community is the stories of those who have tried, complete with triumphs and failures. In this respect, accounts from Sojourners have sometimes been frustrating. We need not only stories of conversion, but stories that grapple with the nitty gritty of community life.

Jean Vanier's Community and Growth is the best reflection I've seen on life in community. Although short on anecdotes, his writing presents the wisdom of a great deal of experience, including many mistakes. We're not going to learn "how to" build community without hearing each others' experience.
