Environmental Exorcism

Residents of East Houston's Manchester neighborhood were joined by hundreds of riders from the People's Freedom Caravan as they placed 300 white crosses, representing cancer victims in the community, on the fence of the Valero Energy Corporation refinery. Valero was fined $100,000 in 2005 for polluting and endangering the public. However, that amount would be "earned back by the corporation in about one hour of an eight-hour workday," according to the University of Houston.
